Orientation for the Nine Corners
feng shui map for western feng shui (top is on the far side of the room as you are facing in)

* The entry point is anywhere along the row with the career area and depends on where your door is placed at.
As you enter a space through the main door, visually divide the room into a 3x3 grid
(now illustrated above, providing this reference in case the image link goes down. As you can see from the descriptions the actual names of the corners varies somewhat by context, and are sometimes referred to by alternate, but similar names)
-------------------------------------------- X -------------------------------------
Helpful People and Travel | Career (lifes path) | Knowledge and Wisdom
Creativity | Centering | Family and Health
Relationships | Fame | Abundance and Fortunate Blessings

orientation
The doorway may be oriented in any of these three sections:
* right of center (helpful people) * center (lifes path) * left (knowledge and wisdom)
As you look across the center of the room you will see the fame area. (see my illustration above)
Feng Shui symbolism
This layout represents the journey that is taken through life, there are three possible entrance points or major paths. The center line represents that which is necessary to reach the objective and the far point of the room represents outcomes in tangible and measurable effects, results. The ideal is to be accomplished in each area as you travel through it and to end up comfortable, surrounded by blessings and gifted with positive relationships.
While this assignment may seem to be arbitrary, the western spiritual mind is recognized to send out a coherent message of visualization, stripped away of that which is too esoteric. The western mind, is results oriented, and for this reason Western feng shui is also.
Feng Shui Goals
The goal of feng shui is to remove obstacles to success and amplify the positive flow of chi. There are many sound psychological reasons behind various selections in the space we choose to surround ourself with. The goal is to find a balance that works well for our lives. Feng shui guides us through the process of recognizing areas which are weak and teaches us how to strengthen them, it also helps us understand the symbol that our living space represents and what our strengths are within that area.
By having a mental roadmap and consciously placing symbols that are appropriate to our lives into place we begin to see the harmonious power that feng shui gives. By creating a functional and dedicated system of space utilization we can create an environment that is both comfortable to us and our guests, as well as maintain a conscious perspective on the roadmap of our lives.
Each area in use in western feng shui will be discussed, as well specific applications of space within each area. By knowing what each sector of the home represents we are constantly reminded of both our goals and aspirations as well as the need to live in harmony with our environment.
