Removing clutter
The process of removing obstacles and clutter from your physical space is extremely helpful. When you let go of something which no longer holds value for you, that item no longer holds power over you. Removing clutter from your life in a physical sense, enables you to do the same for your psyche. It is a method of teaching yourself it is alright to let go of that which no longer holds value for you, or even may be holding back your progress. This is physical meta programming and should be treated with careful consideration.
As you begin the process of removing obstacles from your life and letting go of your baggage, you will find that much is easy to determine. Some things are simple trash and can and should be disposed of quickly. Other artifacts may have a heavy psychological impact on you and represent mental states which you are carrying which have outlived their usefulness.
Think about the memories that come to you when you look at an item. If it is fulfilling and positive, then you should consider how that fits into your life now. Conversely, if the emotions the object generates are negative, bring bad memories, reminds you of someone that you really dislike, or is otherwise tainted, then there is no use in keeping it as you will feel this way on some level every time you view the object in question. If the item is neutral in terms of its "value charge" then you need to examine it from a strictly utilitarian perspective. How useful is it, how pleasing is it, and does it belong. If its not something you are likely to use in the near future then there is a good chance that its just dead weight. If its a valuable item, but doesn't please you or otherwise give you a sense of emotional reward, then you may wish to consider selling the item and using the funds to get something which does function in your life. Alternately you may wish to use the gains from this converted energy to have a life enriching experience of some kind.
In this process you are likely to find that there is much clutter, either disorganized items, or items which project influences on you which may not be of great value to you. In this phase it is important to discern the difference between what is of value and what is merely excess baggage that you have been collecting. By defining where does it fit into your life, or even if it fits at all, you create a deep link to the psychological values that you hold. In doing so you physically orient your world view, which is what you do when writing down a goals list (a habit of most successful people) but you are taking it to a whole new level of kinetic learning, or anchoring.
Removing clutter is basically about stripping away the excess, the useless and reducing your environment down to the most useful, most powerful and most symbolically meaningful artifacts in your possession. The act of placing and arranging these items, is a live thought process which goes much deeper than the typical act of just putting something somewhere without considering why you are doing it, if its beneficial to you or has any purpose whatsoever.
The process of removing clutter has tremendous side effects on your psyche, it is a direct form of removing excess baggage that you may be carrying around. This simple knowing can take you far in life, as long as it is done with conscious awareness of what you are doing. Some immediate benefits that also result are the sudden ability to find things you are looking for, knowing what is where, and simply having less things to trip over while physically navigating your home.
One important question you should ask you self is where does this belong in my life. If it doesn't have a place in the right now, it is of questionable value whether it has a place in your future. You may ask yourself, why am I holding this, am I holding on to something that I should be letting go of? Does this have a place in my life or is it holding me back? By answering these questions honorably, you can begin the process of letting go of obstacles that are mentally keeping you from attaining your goals.
By working through each area of the bagua, you can establish not only whether an artifact has a place in your life, but also stop and consider what it represents. Is it a great treasure, does it inspire me in some area? By answering this you can not only categorize whether it is important to you, but to what aspect of your aspirations it best represents.
