Ceiling angles and sloped ceilings

Sloped ceilings, by nature, have a higher and a lower side. This creates an impression of confined space and an instinctive sense that the world is pressing down on you. If your sleeping area has a sloped ceiling, it is best to position your bed where the highest part of the roof is. Ideally you will want to make sure that you at least aren't at risk of hitting your head when stepping out of bed. Additional measures include "lifting of the chi" to counter the downforce produced by the sloped ceiling. |

Leveling a ceiling or moving the bed may not be an option, so feng shui provides some assistance in making your space more comfortable. This is done by creating uplifting energy. The best solution is to place uplighter lamps which create elevating chi force. The projected upward energy can give you the ability to keep downward pressures at bay. This should be done on the lower portion of the slope. If the slope has a base angle you may wish to use painted stripes or columns (tree energy) to add additional support to the ceiling. This will help reassure your subconscious that you have a secure and supported area to rest. |

A very good solution, if you have enough room, is to use a canopy bed or create a canopy for your bed using poles and fabric, over the space where your bed is located. When resting you will then be able to look up at an even or slightly rounded ceiling and your psyche will be reassured that your world is sheltered. The canopy itself should be lateral. Many canopies have feminine designs, but a masculine canopy can be purchased or constructed using yang materials such as metal, leather, camoflauge patterns and other aggressive design features. |

Ceiling beams present similar issues to sloped ceilings, in that ceiling beams over the bed create downward chi pressure. Psychologically a ceiling beam sends an alert to your system that the roof is in danger of caving in and that the beam could fall on your head at any time. This may have deep primal implications in the risks of sleeping under an exposed branch which could break at any time. This is not considered good chi and is generally not conducive to quality sleep. At any rate, it is good to allay your subconscious and create a sleeping environment where your primitive mind feels at ease. |

Ceiling beams are often square and in addition to creating downward pressure on where a person is sleeping often have sharp 90 degree angles which create shar chi. If those angles point at the sleeping person, that problem should also be addressed using feng shui techniques for handling poison arrows. Exposed ceiling beams made from timbers represent fallen trees and have an earth based shape, primal feng shui logic tells the mind that this object should be on the ground as earth energy has a strong tendancy to settle and has a natural inclination to produce heavy vibrations that should be grounded. |

The same chi elevating solutions and coverage solutions that can be used for sloped ceilings can be used. The ideal solution is to obscure the ceiling beam entirely or simply move the bed. Other solutions include elevating chi, using camouflage or creating a ceiling using a fabric canopy stretched across the beams or simply building a false ceiling.

Ceiling beams can be "cured" by creating active upward signals for chi. Other elevating chi techniques for ceiling beams include using crystals on the beams or other chi attractors which will summon uplifting chi. Creative solutions are many, and involve camouflaging the beam. Bright red ribbon draws uplifting energy, so attaching ribbon can be an inexpensive remedy. Traditionally red or bright colors are used. Bright green may also be appropriate as this would send cues that are similar to those sent by a living branch, as opposed to a dangerous bare branch or deadfall which the ceiling beam may represent to the deeper recesses of the mind. |

Camouflaging a ceiling beam is another option. This can be done by hiding it, often by building a temporary or permanant ceiling across the beams. Another way of camouflaging a ceiling beam is to paint it to match the ceiling and causing it to blend in more. Creative ceiling covers can be made from fabrics, camouflage, parachutes, shelving, large posters, flags and another of other items. Combining the painting technique with cures for uplifting the chi (such as lighting) can make the beam symbolically disappear for the most part and making it easy for the chi to lift the beam. Generally the darker the color of the beam itself, the stronger the downward pressure it exerts. |

| retractable fans |
Ceiling fans
|
retractable fan blades
|
 |
Ceiling fans over the bed create an interesting feng shui problem. In hot humid climates, ceiling fans in bedrooms are popular features. In feng shui however the whirling blades of the ceiling fan are said to scatter the chi energies that are intended to cocoon the sleeping body. Additionally the presence of whirling blades over ones head are generally not considered to be a good thing. Ideally the bed should be moved, where that is not possible some other options can be considered. A great solution is a retractable blade fan, with one of these the blades can be retracted while sleeping and active when not at rest and chi circulation is desired.

While sleeping under a fan, the fan is best kept off. The noise, eye catching movement and wind vibration is at the least, very yang, and will create a tendancy towards lighter, less regenerative sleep. When the blades are still, they aren't actively stirring up the environment and allow more yin energy to settle over the person sleeping. If having a fan is necessary to create a gentle breeze, and the fan or the bed can't be repositioned, a canopy is an inexpensive solution that satisfies both needs. |

Ceiling fan blades work by creating downward forced energy. This can be countered by an elegant and simple solution. Knowing a cure has been made will ease your mind and send a signal to the universe that you are taking conscious action. A simple and powerful symbol can be quite effective. In feng shui a popular ceiling fan solution which can be used on any overhead fan is to paint a red dot above each of the fan blades. The red dot is a chi attractor and will draw chi upwards with rapid movement and activate it as strong chi. This will balance the downward force of the blades and disperse positive uplifted chi throughout the room. |
