Solid Backing |
Solid headboards |
For reasons similar to the command position placement, solid backing is essential in life and in sleep. A headboard provides this foundation and provides a secure barrier both from vibrational frequencies traveling through the wall. In the case of a bed placed where a window is behind it or where it is placed at an angle, the headboard provides a solid place to rest your head and provides protection from behind. A headboard does also serve to reduce noise somewhat and will help the generally yin and receptive nature that a bedroom should project for maximum tranquility. A headboard can and should be aesthetically pleasing and sturdy, to symbolize solid backing to your endeavors. Selecting the right element to represent with your headboard can be done with both color and shape. |

High Position |
This japanese style bed is above the floor but only marginally. While it has pleasing clean lines, it is only a step above sleeping on the ground. Everything they see is above them. They will be forced to look up at anyone entering the room. |
This sturdy four poster canopy bed is at a solid height and gives the occupants a sense of solidity and establishment in the world. The solid posts assist in the sturdy feel of the bed. Anyone approaching the bed will be able to met at eye level when sitting upright. |
The bed should be elevated, this provides a way for a person to lift themselves up from the base troubles of the world as well as giving an excellent vantage point when awakening in the morning or encountering people who enter your bed chambers.. Having an elevated bed symbolically teaches you that you have risen in the world, this is a powerful subconscious message. For this reason a bed should be above the floor level and be solidly supported. |
| Chi flow around the bed |
Challenging Circulation
Under the Bed |
Strong Circulation |
The bed on the left has built in storage capacity and is framed to the ground. This limits the ability of chi to flow properly and tends to create stagnant chi and a sense of inertia Extra care must be taken with a bed of this nature |
The bed on the right is clear under the bed and chi can circulate easily. The space beneath the bed is free from stored clutter. It is adviseable to sweep beneath the bed periodically to maintain maximum chi flow. |
It is recommended to keep the area under the bed clean and not to use this as a storage space. When you are sleeping over something, you are literally saying "let me sleep on it" and whatever energies are produced by what is under your bed will have an affect on your mind. In a traditional view point the chi needs to be able to circulate and bring you fresh insight while dreaming and new opportunities while you rest. When the bed is not elevated and clear beneath it then the chi will not circulate around your resting form properly, and instead will produce stagnation. If you have a bed that has drawers or built in storage under them, it is best to keep these spaces empty or at least choose what is placed there carefully. These spaces should be frequently cleaned to avoid a buildup of stagnation, which is something that must be guarded against closely in yin areas, which the bedroom tends to be. |

Covers and bedspreads |
YANG |
The materials, designs and covers of your bedspread are associated with specific types of energies. In general a bed should be Yin in nature and calming colors are best. A Yang bed can be used in a room which is too overly yin due to shape, wall color or placement. Ultimately a harmonious balance should be sought. The area of the house and the room should be considerations in choosing the aesthetic. Comfort is paramaount when sleeping to ensure a deep restful and vital sleep when you find yourself drawn into the yin state of sleep. As this is important a toned down and generally yin space is usually an asset. Active and yang spaces will tend to stimulate you and make it harder to wind down at the end of the day. |
Dynamic bedrooms can be stimulating which may or may not be advantageous to a partnership, depending on the overall balance of the home. Some yang elements may create additional stimulation in overly yin rooms. A stimulating red bedspread may liven up romance, but as passion increases the intensity may create a relationship that is too intense for some. Flavor to taste. The room location and the portion of the room is important in choosing synergistic colors, patterns and materials. In harmonizing your overall space, it is best to choose elements which work well with the space you are in to achieve your desired state of being. |
| UNREADY |
Making the Bed |
READY |
| The bed on the left is unmade and the occupant appears to have rushed into the day without preparing for later events. |
The bed on the right is carefuly made and the occupants are ready to complete the day in style and return for an evening of quiet enjoyment |
Your bedroom is a place to relax and the bed should be made when awakening, to clear the way for the events of the day to unfold. Leaving the bed unmade is symbolic of unfinished tasks, and it is settling to have an awareness that you are ready for the day. Other reasons for making the bed are more pragmatic. When the bed is made it is ready to be used and will be more receptive and appealing should you wish to share it with another. A made bed will allow for comfortable sleeping and may keep you from tossing and turning on twisted sheets or blankets. At the end of the day it is pleasant to climb into a bed without spending time while fatigued in arranging the covers comfortably. |

Accent Pillows |
Accent pillows can complement a bed, and provide a pleasing look to your space. They can bring in a touch of vibrancy that is otherwise lacking in a room. Active pillows may be stored in other places when resting. They can also be used to liven up any area of the house which is in need of a splash of color. For most couples, when actually resting, two pillows is considered ideal, as this represents one for each partner. If you are single and looking for a prospective partner, it sends the right signal to have a pillow available for anyone who you may invite to join you. An excess of pillows can provide a nice look, but are somewhat impractical when sleeping. Over elevating the head can cause neck strain, and it may be worth considering removing surplus pillows shile actually sleeping. Symbolically many pillows indicates a desire for many guests in ones bedroom, as each represents a place to rest one's head. Excess pillows can create a soft atmosphere, but when the bed is in use the surplus pillows should have a place to be kept. |
| |
Pillow Sizes |
Pillows should be comfortable and proportionate to the size of the actual bed. Colorful pillows will add some spark to the room and may be useful if you just wish to bring the intensity up a notch. In general pillows are an excellent way of accenting and complementing the bed and other decor in the room |

| In Bed |
A bed is an important asset, as a significant portion of your life will be spent there, the majority of this time will be spent resting or sleeping. This time is used to repair your body and rest your mind, and a quality bed will go a great distance in increasing sleep quality. A high quality bed will enable you to rest better in a shorter period of time, and will therefore functionally increase the number of productive hours you have in life by increasing both your energy levels and reducing the amount of time you need to commit to sleeping. Most people spend about 1/3 of their lives in bed, simply sleeping. Sleep is a vital function and an investment in a quality bed can have a huge impact on the rest of your life. A good bed reduces muscle strain and reduces the chances of time consuming injuries due to problems such as back strain or muscle fatigue.
